JRB Solar: Pioneering the Future of Renewable Energy as Nigeria's Leading Mini-Grid Developer

A few years ago, JRB Solar Investment Limited joined the global journey of revolutionizing the renewable energy landscape. With genuine dedication to the vision, we have progressed to become a household name in mini-grid development in Nigeria and beyond. It is important to note the negative impact of epileptic power supply in many parts of the country and how, the over-dependence on the national grid has affected both homes and businesses. Sadly, there is no commensurate level of equipment to scale-up the distribution of power across the value chain.

This reason propelled JRB Solar Investment Limited to double-up its effort to start building mini-grids in underserved and unserved communities across the country. Besides residential communities, JRB Solar has also delved into powering corporate institutions and organizations. Over the years, many establishments have taken the bold step of going off the national grid to begin to enjoy the joy of energy independence.

A couple of months ago, we completed the powering of the Federal Head of Service office complex in Central Area, Abuja with 500KWp in the first phase and 400KW in the second phase. This is a testament to our resolve to keep offering cutting-edge mini-grid solutions, in harnessing the power of solar energy to electrify our communities. The Federal head of service has been enjoying uninterrupted electricity since the completion of the job. According to a survey, they are now saving over 45% of their monthly energy bill because of the smooth energy transition they embarked on.

In the same vein, we built a 1MW Solar PV at the Naval Base, Onne in Rivers State. The project was executed in two phases each 500KW/500KWh. This singular project has given a lease of new life to all the residents at the Naval Base. This is what limitless possibilities mean to us at JRB Solar. One of the naval officers who resides in the vicinity spoke about how life has become a lot easier with the presence of the constant electricity at the naval base.

As one of the leading mini-grid developers, graciously giving energy independence to many, we also embarked in building a 127.68KWp PV system at the Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology in Victoria Island, Lagos. The project which was completed in less than two months in 2022, continued to help the institution to save at least a large percentage of its money. This is one of the gains of switching to solar, it will remove the monthly burden of electricity bills and allow the abundance of the sun to pay your energy bills.

One of the most significant aspects and perhaps the most fulfilling of them all, is when a mini-grid is being developed in a rural community that has never witnessed any form of electricity in their existence. This was the story of the tiny town of Kwalita in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT. At Kwalita, 96.9KWp PV system was developed in 2022, and since that time till now, this community has never witnessed power failure.

Gainfully, the local economy of the village has grown by more than 500% as the people leveraged on the gains of electricity to start small scale businesses, like establishing convenience store, starting barber’s shop, and other businesses. Mr Shehu, one of the villagers, attested to the fact that life is a lot better for them, as they do not need to travel for several kilometres just to get minor things.

What we do at JRB Solar Investment Limited is beyond powering communities, it transcends to empowering them and give them the life they desire just with the presence of constant electricity.

As the conversation around scaling up renewable energy access for over 90 million Nigerians that are currently in darkness continues to gather momentum, there is even a ray of hope in the horizon, as our company is at the final stage of equipping the manufacturing and local assembling factory in Abuja. This will go a long way to make solar panels available and affordable for solar dealers and also for our own use, as it would speed up the completion of other mini-grid projects still ongoing in different part of the country.

There is no solar company in Nigeria that has been able to complete the amazing works of building mini-grids of different capacities, like what JRB Solar has already accomplished. It will surprise you to know that even our corporate headquarter and our factory are completely on solar. For the factory for instance, a total of 1MW of solar solution was built at the factory. This is to enable all the heavy-duty equipment for the assembling of solar panels and solar streetlights to work with maximum efficiency.

Furthermore, the corporate head office of JRB Group, situated in a three-storey building with over 50 offices is solely powered by solar with a 152KWp PV system and we are completely off-grid.

As we continue to grow in quantum leap, and revolutionising the renewable energy landscape in Nigeria and beyond. It has become of crucial importance to bring in cutting-edge solutions that can stand the test of time and offer superior service to the people.

JRB Solar Investment Limited continues to partner with other renewable energy giants both in Europe and Asia, to ensure the seamless clean energy transition by proffering innovative solutions to the age-long problem of bridging the gap between energy supply and energy demand in Nigeria.

As the years roll by, and the brightness of the new dawn beacons on us all, it is our hope that we will continue to help people in underserved and unserved communities to tap into the limitless possibilities of uninterrupted power supply in Nigeria.

With JRB Solar, your quest for energy independence is guaranteed. We offer services to all categories of individuals and corporate organizations with the singular purpose of banishing darkness and creating a path forward to powering and empowering of lives.

We have only just begun, and we will not back down until our visions see the bright light of day.
